Program Information

A licensed program for children aged 24-36 months. Children in this program begin to learn the basic building blocks of how we all work together in a classroom. Our child-led play environment is filled with activities, songs, stories and lots of messy fun!

A licensed Preschool program for three year old children. Our program focuses on the concept of a play based environment to enhance a child's overall development.  Our preschool values play as an essential medium through which children participate with others in an active learning process.  The program focuses on social development and strengthening fine and gross motor skills in a fun and safe environment.

The junior kindergarten program is a licensed program for four year old children that works on kindergarten readiness in a play based environment. Our teachers create “invitations to play” by providing diverse materials for exploration and representation which encourage making choices, problem solving, asking questions, expressing ideas, imagination and creativity.

In order to hold your child's spot, the registration fee AND September's fee must be paid, WITHIN 1 WEEK of registering or your spot will be given away. Early Intervention Services

Brighter Futures Private School is happy to provide Early Intervention services for children who require them. These services are directly immersed, and in conjunction with our preschool and junior kindergarten classes, in an inclusive setting program.  Children that are accessing early intervention services will be part of the regular programming and also receive pull out services for individual therapy and small group work (as required based on the needs of the child).

These services are fully funded through Alberta Education.  Alberta Education offers different types of funding depending on the needs of the child. These include: Mild/Moderate (M/M) funding for children with either mild or moderate delays in development; Program Unit Funding (PUF) for children whose needs are more significant/severe/medical, and English Language Learner (ELL) funding for children who are new to learning English.  Parents do not have to apply for funding, school authorities will access this funding on family’s behalf.

The PUF Program Coordinator (Certified Teacher) develops the child's program, including their Individual Program Plan (IPP), with the child’s Early Intervention team (classroom teachers, therapists, and parents).

To qualify for funding:

  • Parents must present documentation indicating that their child has a medical diagnosis impacting their development or a report/assessment/diagnosis from a qualified therapist/appropriate professional(s) indicating severe delays in key developmental areas, such as speech and language. This is imperative for an initial application and it is very helpful if these assessments can be completed before September.

  • The child must be at least 2 years 8 months and less than 6 years old on September 1 when PUF is accessed. PUF is available for a maximum of three years.

  • The child must be between 3 years 8 months and 6 years old on September 1 when MM funding is accessed and the second year of MM funding must be accessed in the child’s kindergarten year.

  • The child must be registered in and attend an approved preschool or kindergarten program to receive funding.

PUF funds provide for (but not limited to):

  • Therapies including Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Psychology as needed.

  • A classroom assistant.

  • An Individual Program Plan (IPP) with developmentally appropriate goals developed in

  • consultation with teachers, therapists, parents and teaching assistants. The parents must be actively involved in this process.

For questions regarding PUF Programing, please contact our PUF Coordinator, Kay-Amber Spreen at  (587)817-6235 or kay-amber.spreen@edsonfriendshipcentre.org

PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE CHOOSING THE PUF PROGRAMS TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD IN IF YOUR CHILD MEETS THIS CRITERIA OR HAS PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED PUF

In order to hold your child's spot, the registration fee must be paid, WITHIN 1 WEEK of registering or your spot will be given away. We accept cash, debit or credit card at the office, or e-transfer to payments@edsonfriendshipcentre.org (please put child's name in the memo section)

Kindergarten

Our kindergarten program helps to support the 3rd year of PUF supports.  We currently work in collaboration with the LEAP Centre to provide our kindergarten program. In line with the values of the EFC, the kindergarten program is a child-centered, developmentally appropriate program of learning for kindergarten aged children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe and caring, play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all children. There will be a focus on servicing the needs of PUF funded children, who may benefit from a smaller class size and regular, integrated specialized supports and services, however this is an inclusive program. The goal of the program is to help children make a smoother transition to Grade 1 and to aid in improving their success in school moving forward. The class has an enrolment cap of 10 students to allow for one-on-one and small group focus.

NOTE THAT THIS IS AN APPLICATION PROCESS AND YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED IF YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN ACCEPTED INTO OUR KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
